What to expect in class:

If you are new to yoga, this is what you can expect in a typical Traveling Yogi, LLC Standard or Assembly Class:

Once everyone is situated on their mats in the space, everyone will stay on their mats for the duration of the practice.

We will typically begin seated or laying down on our backs. In the first few minutes of the class, we will do breath work and other grounding techniques to help relax our bodies and our minds.

Then we will slowly introduce movement to the body as we do simple stretches to warm up our muscles.

After our warm up, we will do a variety of standing, sitting and laying down yoga poses to stretch and strengthen different parts of the body. As always, modifications and props will be offered as needed. There will be no full inversion poses (no shoulder stand, head stand, or hand stand) during our classes.

The last yoga pose of every class is the most important pose, and it is called Savasana (also known as corpse pose). In this pose, we are lying down on our backs. While there are no goals in yoga, the reason we do Savasana is it helps us quiet our minds as we lie still on our mats. Even though you are not sleeping during Savasana, you will be amazed how rejuvenated you will feel after leaving class!

Chair Class

Chair Classes will be similar to the Standard or Assembly Class except for the following differences:

We will begin in a chair and stay seated (or standing next to the chair — depending on the availability of the students physical abilities) for the duration of the practice.

We will begin seated with breath work and other grounding techniques to help relax our bodies and our minds.

Then we will slowly introduce movement to the body while seated in the chair as we do simple stretches to warm up our muscles.

After our warm up, we will do a variety of yoga poses seated in the chair or standing next to the chair (if that is available to the students). As always, modifications and props will be offered as needed.

At last, the final yoga pose, Savasana (see description above) will be done seated in the chair.
